Teachers Gift ( DIY Apple) (WITH VIDEO)
Teacher Appreciation Gift..
Last week was teacher appreciation week and it got me to thinking… Teacher’s sure have a lot of patients!! I couldn’t last a day in their shoes let alone a whole year of constant teaching and disciplining. It takes a big heart to do what teachers do and to show our gratitude we decided to leave a little memorable gift behind..
Why apples..
We all know apples represent teachers in some way or another.. Which brought the question to mind.. WHY?? After a quick google search I learned an interesting fact. In the 1700’s apples were gifted by poor families to teachers as payment for their children’s education. 300 years later and apples are still somehow associated with teachers… Here it is I used to think it was because of the first letter in the alphabet. ” A for APPLE” Well then.. Now that we’ve taken a history lesson on apples and teachers.. Lets make our own history by making this special gift that will be remembered for years to come. .
What you’ll need
- wood (10 x 12 ours was 3/4″ in thickness)
- Red yarn or thread
- White yarn or thread
- Green yarn or thread
- Brown yarn or thread
- Nails (1 1/4 length)
- Hammer
- Hard floor (concrete or metal sheet)
- Apple printable (you can use my free printable –> down below)
- Stencil
- White sharpie
- Optional (paint or stain)

We printed our printable to fit on an 8×10 sheet of paper.. We first started off by stenciling our teachers name with the white sharpie and stencil.

Then we aligned the apple printable on the wood making sure not to get to close to her name. Following that we put it on top of a sheet of metal and started nailing our nails in.

Here’s a snippet of Oleg hard at work.. (he’s so good with that hammer)

Once all the nails were in we simply pulled that paper off and started threading.

We did the red part of the apple first and followed along with the white heart in the center.. Then we did the stem and the green leaf.

And that’s it. What do you guys think?

Oleg was so excited to take it to school that he woke the next morning and the first thing he did was walk up and put it in his backpack… LOL poor little guy had to wait an extra day.. I had to explain to him that I still needed to take a few pics..

It sure was a fun project.. We hope his teacher likes it.
