Sweetheart Pillow

Oh my gosh. I’ve always wanted a different shaped pillow to add to my collection of throw pillows. For the longest time I’ve wanted to make letter pillows to represent our initials but I never got around to it. Maybe some day I still might. 😀 Although I don’t want my living room to look like a play pen. hehe I’ll have to make it work ;D

HEARTS and LOVE NOTES

Even though this pillow is only like uhhh one day old..!  It is truly sentimental to me. Marriage is a tough cookie to crack and as hard as it is at times my sweet hubby still somehow manages to make me feel like his princess. Real life fairy-tales are far-fetched nowadays but I’ll tell you what!! There isn’t one fairy-tale out there that didn’t have a few bad plot twists before it got to the happily ever after.

Communication is key

I cannot put into words how grateful I am to God  for my husband. I truly want to cherish every moment but the chaos of life gets the best of us at times making it super hard to communicate. Busy Busy Busy is not always the best situation for any couple.  So For those busy day’s I made this love-note heart pillow. You never know when he might need that extra spark of love ;D . I don’t expect him to open it everyday I’m sure fate will do that part.. Although eventually we might try a thirty day challenge writing love-notes to each other. ;D

What you’ll need

1 yard patter fabric ( we used polka dot purchased at joanns fabric)

3 yards Faux leather strips

3 yards cording

1 felt square

1 paper heart (size will depend on how big your want your pillow. Ours turned out a lot bigger then I was expecting. It measures 15 inches at it’s widest.)

heart pillow

We chose to go with leather piping to go around the pillow. I know that white gets dirty quick and I figured if it was leather it wouldn’t be so bad. I didn’t purchase a leather ribbon. Instead we went with 1 yard of faux leather that I cut into long strips. I will be using the rest for another throw pillow so it’s a win win. 😀

I lay the heart on the fabric and cut out two hearts.

Then I cut out one strip of fabric measuring long enough to go between the two hearts. (the width was 4.5 inches)

I made the piping.

This is an important tip— >>> If you will be making your pillow with the piping make sure to use the right presser foot. If you look close I used this one sided presser foot to get as close as I can to the rope.  I’ve tried this with a regular presser foot and let me just say…IT doesn’t look pretty.

I attached the piping to the strip of fabric on both sides.

IT WILL MELT

Whatever you do..DO NOT IRON the leather. Especially if it’s faux leather. It will melt.. To make the envelope I didn’t use a template. I simply used a ruler and chalk. Once my felt was cut out I cut thin strips of the leather and sewed them to the edges of the envelope.  If you look close at the picture above you’ll notice there is a fold going across both the envelope and heart. I ironed them both in half to find my center and then simply lined up the seams. This is by far the easiest way to find the center 😀

I didn’t use anything special to secure the envelope.  Simply pin and stitch away.

I then attached the heart to the strip of fabric that had the pipping already on it. Left a little whole.. turned it inside out..stuffed it and hand stitched the little hole from the outside. Walla the was it. Totally worth all the effort. 🙂 I love how it turned out.

Home Sweet Home

When it comes to home decor I like a little but of everything, because I can never make up my mind on one specific style. This is probably weird, but when I come into a house I like to look at what hangs on their walls or sits on their couches. It is so amusing to me..Especially if it’s an artists house. I remember when I was a kid my mom took me to some ladies house and she was a mural artist. Oh my gosh it was a like a mini museum you just can’t stop looking at it. All her walls were intricately painted with different themes..No her house wasn’t all one style, but guess what.. I LOVED it. I know for sure the one thing that won’t leave my mind is the fact that she took the time to gold leaf her ceilings. YEP. How crazy is that.

Tell me?…

When you come into someones house that is weirdly different.. do you stop for a second to look around and think to yourself?? hmm this is pretty cool..You know why we all do that?? because it’s different. We all love to see things that are new because the same old traditional gets boring. Bare in mind most husbands will still pick traditional just to stay on the safe side.  ;D  Don’t be shy make your home your own…   (the piping is what makes this pillow, can’t imagine it without the piping)
